The available releases of StrongED can be divided into three categories:
Test release - this is the development version. It may be unstable, buggy etc. You should only download it if you want to test the latest version. The test release has its own page where it can be downloaded along with any resources that it needs.
Stable release - this is the latest stable release and it's recommended that you download this version. Only if you have a specific need should you download any of the other versions.
Older releases - These versions are kept for historic reasons mostly but might still be of interest to some people. They include a full set of (older) modes as newer versions of the modes may not be compatible.
The sources for StrongED can also be downloaded. The sources for versions up to 4.66 include StrongED itself. For later versions you'll also need to download the application archive. Please take note of the licences the various StrongED versions are distributed under.
4.69a6 & older are under a licence that allows free use but without the right to distribute, whether altered or not. The sources to these versions are for educational purposes only.
4.69a7 - 4.69f6 are distributed under the GPL v3 licence.
4.69f7 & newer are distributed under the 3-clause BSD licence.
The StrongED Developers welcome contributions to StrongED. So, if you've made changes to your copy and would like to see them added to the official version then by all means get in touch.
StrongFont (originally by John Whitington) converts StrongED font files to spritefiles with one sprite per character and vice versa. This makes it easier to modify existing fonts or to create entirely new fonts.
In addition StrongFont can convert Zap fonts & BDF font files to font files suitable for use with StrongED. Zap fonts can be found in the download section of Zap website. BDF fonts can be found on the internet.
Please note that BDF and Zap fonts can be copyright material. Check the licence before distributing converted fonts.
